Whelping & Neonatal Facilities Ugently Required

At any one time, we have at least one pregnant or whelping mother in care, along with 3-4 cleft palate neonatal puppies. Currently in June 2024, we have 4 cleft palate puppies under 4 weeks old, 1 x 6 week old puppy with mobility issues, 1 x whelping mother with 8 puppies, and have been asked to assist with 3 other pregnant dogs.

In order for us to continue providing safe homes for these babies and their mothers, we need to expand our facilities. We are looking at purchasing 1-2 portable cabins that can be used at different locations to provide sterile, temperature controlled, secure, and safe spaces for these animals. We estimate that the purchase, installation and fitout of these cabins to cost $20,000.00 each. As a small DGR registered not-for-profit, this amount of money is not something we have up our sleeves. It is now becoming a matter or urgency for us. Coming into winter, we can no longer rely on carers garages or sheds for whelping spaces. We need these cabins now.

So how can you help?

We are seeking corporate donations to expand our services and facilities. If you are a business and looking to get involved, please email secretary@shari.net.au. We are a registered DGR charity, and all donations over $2.00 are tax deductible.

Alternatively, if you are a business that manufactures portable cabins or dongas, we would love to discuss donations and sponsorship.

If you’re an individual, you can also donate towards this cause. Simply include “Cabins” in your reference when you donate online.

Shelter Facilities

Our long-term goal is to build a permanent shelter facility in the North Brisbane / Moreton Area. Currently, most pounds and shelters are at their capacity and turning away animals. We envision a facility that caters for both dogs & cats, providing a safe, temporary solution before placing the animals into nurturing foster homes or finding their forever homes. Our facility will be open to the community and offer ongoing education, desexing clinics and a designated donation depot.
